Seated in the living room after their first Thanksgiving together as a true couple, their first Thanksgiving as a family, their first Thanksgiving without much drama, Alyssa cuddled with Chris. His fingers gently played with her hair as he casually spoke with her father. Her thoughts swirled around their previous Thanksgivings, smirking at the fact she had rescued him in one way or another for a large number of them. But not this year. No rescuing was needed at all that year. They had survived the meal with grace. It was something glorious to be home for the holidays, their home.

“What are you thinking, beautiful?” Chris asked softly.

Her hazel eyes went to his green eyes and she smiled, “That I am most thankful to be home this year. Not only home in locality but home in my heart. This is… We are…”

“Perfect?” he offered before leaning down to kiss her.

“Yes, Chris, we are. I love you.”

His eyes searched hers for a moment, “I am so glad I wised up and embraced the gift that you are. You are exactly what I have needed all my life.”

“And what you have had for a good portion of it,” she teased and kissed his cheek before snuggling back down. “This right here… this is a perfect moment.”

“Happy Thanksgiving, Lyssie,” he whispered. “And thank you.”
