Baby, It's Cold

Pulling the curtain to the side, Kylia glanced out the window. Snowflakes drifted down from the sky, as they had been for the past three hours. It wasn’t just tiny, wimpy flakes either, but large enough that she wondered if someone was on the roof cutting out the shapes and dropping it over the edge. Perhaps if she didn’t need to get back to LA, it wouldn’t make a difference. But she did. More than she could say. She would head out into the cold regardless.

Dropping the curtain back in place she headed to fetch her coat from the closet. Adam stepped out of the kitchen, two steaming cups in his hands. He stopped where he was, watching her head over and open the small door.

“Baby?” he asked.

Pulling her coat on, Kylia glanced at him, “I really must go.”

“But, baby, it’s cold outside.”

“I really can’t stay.”

“But, baby, you’ll freeze out there.”

She pulled on her hat, “I have to go, Adam.”

“Why? Where can you possibly need to go in this weather?” he set the mugs down, moving to her.

Kylia sighed, “We were supposed to be home by now, Adam. I have an appointment early in the morning in LA.”

“Call them. I’m sure they’ll understand the weather,” he reached for the coat.

“I really can’t stay. You know how hard it was for me to get this appointment,” her hands held the hat on.

“Are you planning on walking? There’s no cabs to be had out here,” Adam pointed out.

“I’ll drive.”

He laughed, “Baby, you don’t drive.”

Her eyes went to his, “I don’t care about the fucking snow. I need to be back in LA by morning!”

Adam quickly kissed her nose, “We’ll call the studio right now and tell them that you’re stuck up here in the snow. They will understand. We’ll reschedule your appointment.”

“But—”

He kissed her mouth, “Baby, it’s cold outside. You’re not going anywhere. We’ll make it home as soon as the weather permits. And we’ll reschedule your meeting with MGM. I promise.”

“But—”

“It’s up to your knees out there. If you caught pneumonia and died, what would I do then?” Adam asked. “You’re staying here. You’ll still get your meeting with the directors. Promise.”

Sighing, she nodded, knowing he was right. The weather really was frightful. She would stay. But he better keep to his end of the deal. His lips touched hers again and she slowly gave into him. She trusted him. Adam would see that all was all right. Once the snow was gone.
