Title: Girl from the North Country: Part IV, Hot
Rating: PG-13 [mature themes]

Summary: Adele has a summer surprise for Bobby too.

After their extended vacation in the cabin by the lake, Bobby refused to return home. It really had little to do with the fact Adele had warmed to sex and by that, he meant she was insatiable. Rather he felt that their relationship had progressed and matured to a level he did not want to lose by being away. It was a very simple decision to find a room to rent for the summer near her. Finding a part-time job near where he would attend school in the fall was simple as well. Every decision circling around Adele was simple. He just had to be near her.

Her parents suddenly seemed to take interest in their relationship as well, complicating things. Perhaps it was due to his spiriting her away on the last day of school, supposedly for only a week but it turned into two. Regardless they restricted Bobby’s visits to her for a week, only allowing the couple to see each other at her house, under supervision. However, after a week of that, they became lax and quickly found other things to do, leaving the couple alone. The following week Adele once more left the house with Bobby, ending up in his rented room a few miles away. With her freedom once more granted, she spent all her free time with Bobby or else waiting for him in his room while he worked.

This was precisely where she was that late July afternoon: napping on his bed while he worked a few blocks away. Ever since the temperatures had spiked past mid-80s she had felt ill, especially in the morning. Bobby had purchased a fan to lower the temperature in his room, but even laying in front of it naked did not seem to abate her queasiness. Part of her considered returning to her parents’ house as it had air conditioning, but being with Bobby was worth struggling through nausea. He would be back soon, perhaps even with ice cream.

As that thought crossed her mind, the door to Bobby’s room opened and he stepped in. His gentle eyes instantly settled on her laying on the bed nude with the fan on her. He instantly frowned and approached the bed, kneeling beside it. His long fingers reached up and brushed her dark blond hair from her eyes. He loved how her hair lightened in the summer, probably would have much more if she spent more time in the sun. Perhaps one day he would take her to California. He thought she would like that.

“Do you still feel unwell, my love?” he asked softly.

She nodded slightly, “It goes away some over the day.”

He kissed her briefly, “Maybe you should go back to your parents’ house.”

Adele shook her head, “No. I want to be with you.”

“I want to be with you too, Addie. But not with you feeling so poorly. Let us try a day or two with you back home and me visiting to see if that helps.”

“But, Bobby–”

“Just a couple of days. It will not be any different from you staying here while I am working. I’ll come directly to their house when I get off,” he vowed.

“I… all right. But if nothing changes, I want to come right back here.”

“Of course,” he kissed her again. “I have been saving money so we can move into an apartment of our own by campus. Hopefully that will help too.”

Her eyes looked into his, “I love you, Bobby. I do.”

Standing in the doorway of the power blue, Mrs. Davis watched as her daughter retched into the toilet for the third time since the rising of the sun. While concern showed on her face, her arms folded across her chest in disappointment. The girl had shown no other signs of being sick at all. It could only be one thing, especially since she spent all her time with that boy from the north country.

“Mom?” she wiped the back of her mouth as she looked up at the stoic woman wearing the same color suit as the walls of the bathroom.

“Have you had sex with Bobby?”

“Mom!”

“Adele Liora Davis, answer me.”

Scowling at her mother, the sixteen-year-old girl pushed pass her and headed to her bedroom. She had not the chance of slamming the door closed before her mother reached the room, blocking the door. Their eyes met harsh brown fighting harsh brown.

“Answer me.”

“It’s none of your business!”

“As you are my sixteen year old daughter, it very much is. Especially if you are pregnant with his bastard.”

Adele’s eyes went wide and she gasped. Her hand instantly dropped to her stomach, pressing upon it. That was enough confirmation for her mother, who instantly sighed.

“Really, Adele?”

Her eyes went back to her mother’s, “Do you think…?”

“Come on, Adele. Let’s go call the doctor,” she slipped her arms around the girl’s shoulders. “And then we’re having a very long conversation.”

Sitting in the stereotypical, Jewish middle class living room, Bobby looked around nervously. He had no clue what this was about, only that the Davises would not let him see Adele. Instructed to sit in the living room and wait, he obeyed but it did not make him feel well at all. There seemed to be a large tense cloud about the entire house and to be honest, though he never really feared her parents before, he was about ready to bolt. But he could not run out on Adele – ever. He would face whatever hell for her. He loved her.

Her father led her mother into the room. Bobby’s back straightened even more, if that was even possible. His eyes looked beyond the older couple, hoping to see Adele. Why were they keeping her from him? What had happened? Had she gotten sicker while he was away?

“Mr. and Mrs. Davis?” his blue eyes went to them as they sat on the sofa across the coffee table from him.

“Bobby, do you know why we’ve brought you here?”

He shook his head, “No, sir. Not in the least.”

“Have you been having sex with my daughter?” the older man asked.

Bobby’s eyes widened and his cheeks turned dark red, “I… I…”

“We know, Bobby,” Mrs. Davis spoke up. “Adele has told us.”

“She… she… told you?”

“Do you intend to marry my daughter?”

His blue eyes went back to Adele’s father, “I… I love her.”

“Answer the question, Robert,” he declared darkly.

“I… I suppose so. Yes.”

Her mother smiled, “That is enough for me, Bobby.”

“But not for me,” the older man declared. “You have stolen my little girl from me. She does not–”

“Levi,” Mrs. Davis warned.

“But–”

“Adele! You can come in now!” she shouted.

The young girl entered the room, her eyes cast to the floor. Bobby instantly stood and approached her, worry chasing away all other thoughts and feelings. His fingers reached for hers as she had yet to look up at him. Clasping her hand gently brought her eyes to his and his heart sank, seeing tears glittering in her brown eyes.

“Baby?” he muttered gently.

“Bobby… Bobby… Bobby, I’m pregnant.”

He blinked, “What?”

“We’re having a baby,” she declared.

A slow smile worked its way across his face. He pulled one hand free from hers and gently touched her soft abdomen. After caressing her briefly, he reached up and caressed her cheek before leaning in to kiss her softly.

“I promise you, Adele, I will take care of you – both of you,” he muttered softly. “I love you.”

Lying on her bed, Adele curled around Bobby. To be honest she was surprised at how levelheaded both her parents and Bobby had been about the pregnancy. It was very unplanned, but not unwelcomed at least in her mind. She knew her father was not happy as he had not looked her in the eyes since, but he would get over it, or so she hoped. After the doctor’s appointment, she and her mother discussed her options and she most certainly was keeping the baby. And with how attentive and loving Bobby had been since her announcement the week before, she knew the decision was the correct one.

Just as she knew the choice to stay with her parents had been the correct one. Bobby gave up his room, invited to stay with Adele by her father actually. Though it was likely so that he could keep an eye on the boy to make certain he lived up to his promise to Adele, both of the teenagers accepted the offer. Adele would be more comfortable in their house instead of wherever Bobby could afford to live and that was his highest priority now. Her father avoided the couple for the most part, choosing to watch them from a distance, but that did not stop Bobby from stepping up in the house and contributing groceries and performing whatever chore asked of him. He wanted to do right by Adele first and doing so meant retaining her parents’ blessing.

He still did not know how to tell his own parents, but that would come. He supposed when they came to the city for their back-to-school shopping in a couple of weeks. Until then he would merely love and care for Adele.

“Addie?” he muttered softly, his fingers chasing her long hair around her back.

“Yes, Bobby.”

“You’re… you’re not upset about this are you?”

“About what?”

“Us having a baby?”

She shifted slightly in order to see him better in the dim light of the moon, “No, Bobby, not at all. I love you and want to spend all of my life with you. This baby… this baby is the perfect symbol of our love and us. Oh she will be loved so much.”

He smiled crookedly, “You think it’s a she?”

“Absolutely. And she’ll have your eyes.”
