Title: Midnight Shift: Chapter Forty-three, Reunited
Rating: NC-17 [drinking, language, sex]

Summary: Cameron and Summer talk through her relationship doubts. Jimmy and Robert party after the final Earls Court concert. Jimmy and Summer finally reunite.

Though she spoke with Jimmy during the early hours of the morning, or so he presumed as the phone rang three times before stopping, smiles did not light Summer’s face. Cameron tried to give her space and spent much of the morning watching television and playing with her dog. She had hardly spoken more than a couple of words to him since hanging up the phone the previous night and going to bed – alone. Nor had she changed out of what she slept in or even really left her bedroom much at all. They had not known each other long, but Cameron felt as if he knew her better than probably anyone else. Something was wrong.

Unable to resist any longer, Cameron put down the pregnancy book he had been reading hoping to coax her out of her room, set it on the coffee table, and got to his feet. The dog perked up, probably thinking they were going to go on their fourth walk of the day. He did not pick up the leash, but instead headed towards Summer’s room. Knocking softly, he pushed the unlatched door open. His heart instantly plummeted to the plush carpet; Summer was curled up on the floor, wrapped in the satin bedcover, the fabric and her cheeks stained with her tears.

Saying nothing, he approached her, sat on the floor as well, and opened his arms. Her red eyes glanced at him briefly before she quickly fell into his arms. Holding her tightly, Cameron said nothing, merely held her through her sobs. Eventually her cries lessened, leaving her with crusty eyes and a wet nose. Cameron pulled slightly away and grabbed the tissue box on the nearby nightstand. After wiping her tears and nose, he cuddled her again.

Hiccupping slightly, Summer finally spoke, “Cam…”

He kissed the top of her head, “Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out.”

Barely taking a shaky breath, she responded, “Robert got on the phone last night.”

He squeezed her again, “What did he say?”

Carefully Summer recounted her conversations with Led Zeppelin the night before, ending with Robert’s heartbreaking confession. He nodded, listening to what she was saying and what she was not saying. When her words fell silent and she sighed, Cameron had some idea as to what was really troubling her. His only problem was he did not know how to help her – and a part of him did not even want to try.

“Summer… I don’t… I don’t know what to tell you. It sounds like he was sincere. And you are having his baby…”

“But he left me.”

“I know… but it sounds like he did not really mean to.”

“But he did all the same. I haven’t heard from him since… he put this baby inside of me,” Summer pointed out.

He sighed, “Well, do you love him?”

Her eyes dropped to her hands that were playing with the bottom hem of her shirt, “I think so, yes.”

“Well then… maybe you should give him a chance to explain.”

“But he left me two months ago, Cameron. And not a single phone call or anything. I can’t just… I can’t just…”

He kissed the top of her head, “Then don’t let him back. Whatever you do, do it because that’s what you feel you should do, what’s best for you. All the flowery words in the world mean nothing if… he doesn’t mean them.”

“I thought… I thought I had it all figured out. And then Jimmy called this morning… and… Cam… I don’t know what to do. I love Robert. He’s my first. But… my heart aches just thinking about him. I don’t know… I don’t know that I could ever trust him again,” she spoke. “Robert is… what if once I let him back in, his wife beckons him back? Or any of the groupies? How can I trust him?”

“I can’t tell you that, Summer.”

She sighed, “I can’t. I can’t be with him again. Even if this baby is his. I can’t.”

“Okay, so you aren’t going to let Robert back into your life. What about the baby’s life?”

“I guess it’s only right, but I’m not ready to face him yet.”

Cameron nodded, “Okay, fair enough. What of Jimmy?”

“If I’m not with Jimmy, where am I?”

“You can go live with your dad.”

“What if he doesn’t want me either?” she quickly asked.

“You are his daughter, Summer,” he brushed her long blonde hair back from her face. “He will take care of you.”

She sighed, “Jimmy loves me. He takes care of me.”

“I know, sweetheart,” he kissed her forehead. “And he’ll be flying back to you tomorrow evening.”

“You’re going to stay until then, right?”

“Of course I am. I am going to stay until you tell me to leave.”

She snuggled closer to him, “That will be never, Cameron. Never leave.”

They cuddled on the floor for a few more minutes until her dog curiously sought their company. She crawled awkwardly into Cameron’s lap, using the added height to bump her up to lick Summer’s face. Within moments, she began to giggle and pushed the puppy away, wiping the dog slobber from her face. Cameron smiled, happy again to see and hear the carefree nature of the girl returning.

“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s get up. You take a shower. I’ll order some food. And then we’ll go walk this rascal,” he rubbed the dog’s head.

“Thank you,” she responded softly, her eyes holding his.

“No problem.”

Summer quickly kissed him before pushing the puppy fully away and climbing out of Cameron’s lap herself. Grasping the dog before she could follow Summer, Cameron got up as well and reached for the phone. He quickly placed a room service order before carrying the dog out of Summer’s room and closing the door. As he set the pooch down, the phone rang. Without a thought, Cameron answered it.

You’re not Summer.

“Hello, Jimmy,” Cameron responded, sitting in the chair next to the phone. “Summer’s in the shower right now. I can have her call you when she’s out.”

Why is she showering in the middle of the day? Did the two of you –

“Summer has been pretty shaken up since the phone call last night,” he interrupted. “I’ve only now convinced her to get dressed and go walk the dog.”

I see.

“You’ll see for yourself soon. Unless you’re calling to tell her that you’re not coming back like you promised?” Cameron frowned at the thought.

Jimmy smirked, “No. I will be on a plane directly after the final performance.

“Good. She really can’t handle many more letdowns.”

The guitarist was silent for a moment, “Is she okay?

“I guess. I don’t know. I’ll do my best.”

Fine enough. As long as your best does not include touching my girlfriend inappropriately.

Cameron remained silent.

Tell Summer I will ring her after the show again – but not until I am home from the arena.

Before Cameron could agree to pass the message along, Jimmy hung up. Staring at the phone for a moment, he shrugged and hung it up. He wanted to believe Summer that Jimmy would not really do anything, but… his instincts did not really correspond with her previous statement. He did not want Jimmy Page as an enemy.

After corralling Charlotte in the bedroom for a quickie before the show – which still left him unsatisfied as she was not the one he truly wanted – Jimmy slipped into the back of a limousine without her and headed to the second to last Earls Court show. Though he knew the show would go off without a hitch, as the band had finally hit their groove the previous concert, a slight tension of nerves touched his soul. He knew he would have to deal with Robert. The singer would likely plead to speak with Summer again.

If Cameron had been telling the truth – and the young boy still had not learned the art of lying – Robert’s few stolen words with Summer set her in a tailspin. Jimmy was not about to allow that again. He would not give into the singer, no matter his demands.

Surprisingly, Robert did not mention the blonde Californian back in the States. He went through his regular warm-up procedures and even joked with the few people allowed backstage. Though suspicious, Jimmy said nothing. If Robert was going to act as if everything was normal, or even like Summer never existed, Jimmy would play along.

After the successful performance, the band sat around backstage, sharing drinks and random stories with the same group of people who saw them onto stage. Before long, it was decided to move the party to a local hot spot. Briefly, Jimmy hesitated, preferring to go and call Summer. Instead, he was pushed into the back of a car by Peter. A few minutes later, the band headed to the VIP section of the club.

A glass of whiskey pressed into his hand and a pretty girl wiggling in his lap, Jimmy slowly began to slip right back into the rock and roll world. He did not hesitate to sniff powder nor push away the girl’s hand as she began to rub his cock. A pleased smirk touched his face as she unzipped his pants and disappeared under the table. Life was good.

As the girl went down on Jimmy in the club, Robert got up and headed to the loo. He hardly needed to use the facilities, but could not handle being around the guitarist any longer. It was almost like he was flaunting… well, everything in front of Robert. He was almost smug about it. While Robert had hid away all of his thoughts and feelings and worries about Summer that night, he could not watch Jimmy carry on as if she did not matter. Apparently only the pleasures of the night mattered. He would not stay to witness it.

“Going somewhere?” Peter intersected the blonde singer before he neared the red velvet ropes.

“Yeah. The loo.”

“She’ll suck your cock too,” the manager declared, motioning to Jimmy and the groupie. “As a warm-up, that is. She likes two dicks in her.”

Robert stared at him for a moment, “Then by all means, I won’t keep you waiting.”

Before the manager could continue with whatever he was attempting, the blonde singer stepped around the rotund man, unlatched the velvet rope himself, and headed directly to the bathroom. He spoke dismissively to a few on his walk, but brushed most off one after another.

Except a man in the restroom.

“I can get you what you want,” he spoke in a low voice, standing next to Robert’s urinal.

Robert snorted, shook out the last few drops of pee, and tucked his cock back into his pants, “I highly doubt that, sir.”

“She has cried quite a bit for you,” he stated. “Feels alone, like the world has abandoned her.”

He glanced at the man briefly, “Uh huh.”

“He let you talk to her last night.”

His eyes snapped to the stranger’s, “Who are you?”

He stepped closer, leaning towards Robert’s ear, “If you don’t do something quickly, he’ll be the one fucking her on Monday. Not you.”

Who are you?” he repeated.

“A friend,” he handed a small business card out to Robert. “I can help you recapture your Summer.”

“PERCY!” Bonzo burst into the bathroom.

The mysterious man stepped away and quickly escaped the room, not even noticed by the drummer at all.

“MATE, THAT SHOW WAS AWESOME!” he shouted.

Robert’s eyes flicked to Bonzo and he frowned. He had not expected The Beast to appear in London; not with Bonzo going home to his wife at night. But he knew that feral glint in the drummer’s eyes. Only one person could ever tame it and he did not know where she was.

“Yeah, it was,” he carefully responded. “Hey, maybe we can go ring Summer and tell her all about it?”

“Are you kidding!? There are birds out there begging to take us to the hotel and fuck us. That’s what we should be doing right now.”

“Like Jimmy?” his eyes darkened slightly.

“Fuck yes like Jimmy. We’ll grab him too.”

“What about Pat, your wife?” Robert asked.

“Nah, she’s not Jimmy’s type.”

The singer smirked, “Don’t you want to go home to your wife?”

“NO. LET’S GO BANG SOME BIRDS.”

“But –”

“COME ON, PERCY,” Bonzo grabbed him by the arm. “I know just the one for you. She’s sweet and petite, just like Summer.”

“…just like Summer…”

As they returned to the VIP section, a lithe young woman was pushed towards Robert. He glanced her over quickly, smiled, and muttered an apology. She certainly was cute and pretty, but he would not be bedding anyone that night. Not with Summer once more on the forefront of his mind. Jimmy might be able to push thoughts of her aside for a night of fun with a bunch of British groupies, but he could not. Instead, he sat back down at a table and pulled out the business card from his pocket.

It was blank on both sides.

After another Sunday filled with park walks and browsing New York boutiques – even a baby one – Summer curled up on the sofa, cuddling close to Cameron. Some random program was on the television, but she had not paid attention long enough to have any idea what it was about. She regretted not speaking with Jimmy the previous day and was saddened he had not called after the show as he told Cameron. But she pushed it aside and went about the day, doing whatever Cameron thought they should do. She could not deny it: being with the young writer made her happy. They did not even have to do anything, as they were not right in that moment. He just made her feel… normal.

“You know,” Cameron spoke up, “I hope you have a baby girl.”

Her eyes flicked up to his, “Why?”

“Because you must have been the most beautiful baby,” he declared softly, a slight flush creeping into his cheeks. “And today, you really lit up when you were looking at the frilly little baby dresses.”

“They were really cute. I have never really seen clothes that small before.”

“Didn’t you have dolls growing up?”

“…no.”

Realizing her upbringing, he paused for a moment, “Did the babies not wear anything where you grow up?”

“No, not really.”

“Well,” his fingers brushed across her forehead, “what I said before stands: I hope your child is a girl.”

“When can we see the baby, Cameron?”

“We read about that already. You know the answer.”

She placed her hand on her small abdomen, “The baby is almost two months old. Well… not old. But you know what I mean.”

His hand covered hers, “I think maybe at your next doctor’s visit you can probably do that.”

“That’s exciting,” she smiled at him.

“It is.”

Summer shifted a bit closer, “Do you think I look different?”

“Than what?”

“Than before? Do I look fatter?”

His hand still rested on top of hers, on her small belly, “Not really. You have a little belly now, but it’s not that noticeable.”

“My boobs are bigger,” she declared.

A deep red filled his cheeks, “I wouldn’t know about that.”

Summer giggled and kissed his inflamed cheek, “They are.”

“Um… okay.”

An awkward silence fell over them. Cameron tried to focus on the images on the screen, but his thoughts kept returning to her breasts. When she relaxed against him, his eyes flicked down, spying the soft roundness of her breasts. His breath caught slightly and he felt his body react to the thoughts running through his mind.

“Um,” Cameron quickly pulled away. “I’m going to get ready for bed.”

“Oh,” she looked out the window and noticed night had fallen on New York City. “I probably should too.”

They parted and headed into their respective bedrooms. Once attired in sleepwear, they met once more in the living space. Their eyes met briefly, that familiar spark filling the space between. Cameron looked away, focusing his attention on her puppy. He needed to fight whatever was going on, especially since Jimmy would be there soon.

“Oh. We should have walked her once more,” he commented. “I’ll go do that right now.”

“I’ll go with you,” Summer instantly responded.

“No, sweetheart,” Cameron picked up the dog’s leash and squatted to click it on. “You don’t need to get dressed again. I’ll be really quick.”

She frowned, “Okay.”

With the lead attached to Queenie’s collar, Cameron stepped over to Summer, “Smile, pretty girl.”

She forced a smile. Without even thinking, Cameron quickly kissed her. That simple action brought a true smile to her lips.

“I’ll be back before you even miss me,” he claimed.

When he returned a few minutes later, most of the lights were off in the hotel room. Only a soft light emanated from Summer’s room. He released Queenie from the leash and headed towards the light. Stopping in the doorway, he leaned on the frame, his eyes settling on her. She lay on her side just off-center of the bed. Her long blonde hair cascaded behind her in golden waves. Only a sheet was pulled across her body, tucked underneath her breasts. Her oversized shirt hung off her shoulder, baring a bit more flesh than necessary, though it did not look contrived.

She was beautiful.

“Cameron,” she muttered softly, drawing his eyes to hers, “sleep with me tonight?”

Though he knew she did not mean it sexually, his body reacted otherwise. He was certain it was their last night together; the last time he could sleep with her sweet scent washing over him. And he knew she slept better when not alone. Surely, they would wake before Jimmy arrived.

Saying nothing, Cameron stepped into the bedroom and closed the door, keeping the dog from sneaking in. He kicked off his sneakers and approached the bed. Pausing, he clicked off the small lamp before turning to lift the sheet and slip into the bed with her. They remained apart on the large bed for a few minutes, until Summer rolled over and snuggled against him without asking permission. Smiling slightly, Cameron’s fingers gently played with her hair, chasing it around her back.

“I’m afraid, Cameron,” she confessed.

“Afraid of what, sweetheart?”

“That you’ll leave and I won’t feel this anymore.”

“Feel what?” he whispered.

“So… normal.”

Cameron squeezed her gently and assured her, “I told you I won’t leave until you want me to.”

“I hope so. I really hope so.”

Ever grateful that exhaustion from the final Earl’s Court performance made it possible to sleep on the flight to New York City, Jimmy stepped into the airport restroom. He scrubbed his face and brushed out his hair, trying to get rid of anything linger from the concert or even the flight. Had he the chance, he would have properly showered before returning to his sweet girl, but that was not possible. Instead, he left the bathroom behind and headed out of the terminal to a waiting car.

He stopped the car to quickly purchase another gift for Summer, even though he already had a dozen tucked away in his luggage. Arriving at the hotel, he instructed the bellman to bring his luggage up in two hours before pressing a large bill into the man’s hand. Jimmy checked in with the front desk and received a second key. He lingered a moment longer, considering whether or not to order breakfast then or to wait. In the end, he asked them to send up Summer’s favorite breakfast in two hours, certain she would be hungry by then. Thanking the ladies at the front desk, Jimmy headed to the elevator and greeted the attendant.

“Good morning, Mr. Page,” the man responded, pressing the penthouse button without pause. “Miss Davis has not yet walked her dog this morning.”

“Ah,” Jimmy nodded. “Well it is still a bit early.”

“Indeed.”

The remaining trip up the hotel was silent, as Jimmy had no need for small talk. However, he did tip the attendant before stepping out and heading to the hotel door. Without knocking, he inserted the key into the lock and entered the mostly dark hotel room. Queenie’s head snapped up and her nostrils flared as she tried to determine who the intruder was. As he closed the door, her head returned to the edge of her dog bed, deciding he was not a threat. His dark eyes glanced around, instantly noticing details indicating Cameron’s presence, particularly the typewriter on the table. He pushed aside the flash of jealousy and headed towards the master suite.

Opening the door silently, he stepped into the room, closing the door behind him. He paused for a moment to allow his eyes to adjust to the increased darkness. His eyes briefly darted around the room before settling on the bed. His heart stopped. There were two in the large bed.

Coolly, he reached for the nearest lamp and clicked it on. Cameron stirred first, blinking wildly as he rolled away from spooning Summer. Pushing up onto his elbows, his bleary vision focused on the lit lamp. Seeing the guitarist standing next to it, his eyes widened and he quickly stumbled out of the bed.

“This isn’t what it looks like, Jimmy,” Cameron quickly muttered.

He said nothing, but merely folded his arms over his chest. In truth, though his jealousy was lighting up every cell in his body, Jimmy believed the young man. Had Cameron been in any state of undress, he would let his emotions rule. But as he wore not only a tee shirt and pants, but his socks as well, Jimmy found himself trusting his claim. Remaining silent, he motioned to the door with his eyes. Not taking a moment to think about it, Cameron picked up his discarded shoes from the night before and darted out the door.

Reaching over, Jimmy locked the closed door. He approached the side of the bed Cameron vacated and looked over her still sleeping form. Though he could not tell much from the curve of her back, especially as her body was covered with clothing, another point in Cameron’s favor, Jimmy just knew the weeks apart changed her body. As that thought crossed his mind, his jealousy turned towards the one who put her in that predicament, but he could not focus on that. With a deep breath, he pushed away the thoughts of anyone else touching her at all. Slowly, he crawled onto the bed, all of his clothing, including shoes, still intact.

Slipping one hand over her hip, he leaned over and kissed her ear softly. She smiled and purred, but did not fully wake. Jimmy’s hand rolled over her hip and gently cupped her sex as he bit her ear lightly. Gasping, Summer’s eyes fluttered open. She looked over her shoulder to the source of the touches. Before she could say anything, Jimmy kissed her mouth, his tongue slipping pass her parted lips.

“Jimmy,” she muttered once the kiss ended, “you’re here.”

“I promised you I would be,” he breathed and kissed her again. “I could not go another day without your kisses.”

“Jimmy…”

His lips danced over her face before returning to her lips, “You are so gorgeous.”

Kissing her passionately for a few moments, his hands wandered over her cotton-covered body. He briefly groped her breasts before continuing down to her terry cotton shorts. Without ado, his fingers pushed the shorts from her hips, arching her body towards him to fully slip them off. Jimmy tossed the shorts over his shoulder, kissed her mouth quickly, and skipped his mouth down to her sex.

His dark eyes flashed up to hers. He smiled lasciviously up at her before kissing her pubic mound. Feeling the tickle of pubic hair, Jimmy smiled again. His eyes glanced down at her dark blonde, coarse hair. Though he had not minded her being hairless, something about the soft dusting of hair made his blood boil. She was more of a woman since he last lay with her. Spreading her legs wide, Jimmy licked Summer’s sexual petals, swirling his tongue around her swollen bud. A pleasure-filled soft moan passed her strawberry lips as her fingers buried in his long hair. He smiled into her sex, pausing his licks, as he noticed her fingers opened and closed with the rhythm of his slurping.

Releasing one of her thighs, Jimmy pressed two long fingers into her dripping body. Summer instantly moaned, arching her hips up to drive his digits in deeper. With another brief smile, he kissed her clit before beginning to suck on it as he thrust his fingers in and out of her body. Her body began to writhe under his ministrations, her breathy moans deepening in tone. As her fingers clenched fistfuls of his hair, Summer’s entire body went rigid, a passionate scream stuck in her throat.

Withdrawing his fingers, Jimmy quickly licked her honey from his hand, unfastened his pants, and thrust into her quivering body. He kissed her deeply, his bare chest rubbing against her clothed breasts as he quickly moved. Summer’s fingers grasped his shoulders, squeezing tight. Their eyes locked as she groaned in pleasure with each thrust. His grunts quickly joined her vocalizations, both becoming more frequent and intense. His body began to tense, feeling her body build towards a second orgasm.

“Oh, fuck, Jiiiiiiiiimy,” Summer managed to moan.

Smirking, he leaned down and kissed her deeply before leaning up. With his hands on her hips, he quickly thrust into her, the sloppy sounds of their bodies meeting a perfect melody to their sexual voices. His dark eyes looked down into hers, his lips smiling slightly as she squeezed her still concealed breasts and moaned. He thrust harder and deeper into her body, tilting her hips slightly so that he would rub against her just right.

“Fuuuuuuck,” she groaned, her body squeezing his cock tightly.

Thrusting hard three more times, Jimmy grunted as his orgasm shot down his spine and into her juicy body. He kept pushing into her, feeling his cock continuing to flood her body. As the last of his orgasm seeped out of his body, Jimmy leaned down and kissed her sweetly.

“Oh Jimmy…” she breathed.

“I have missed you, my princess,” he muttered.

“I have missed you too.”

Jimmy kissed her again before slowly pulling away from her, “Let me see all of your beauty.”

With a smile, Summer sat up and pulled the cotton shirt off while Jimmy pulled off his shoes, socks, and pants. As his dark eyes turned back to the blonde beauty, he smiled. His gaze washed over her body, settling on her breasts for a long moment. Still rising more quickly than they would at a resting state, he knew without cupping them, she had gained nearly a cup size in his absence. His eyes continued down as she lay back down on the bed, focusing on the slight round of her belly. As she did not modestly close her legs, but kept them slightly open, he noticed the milky dribble dripping from her wet set. With a smirk, he scooped a bit of it up with his pointer finger and offered it to her. Eyes locked on his, Summer happily suckled his finger suggestively. Groaning Jimmy leaned down and kissed her, his cock already beginning to harden once more.

“My dear sweet princess,” he muttered against her mouth, “you will be the end of me.”

After quickly leaving the hotel room with the dog, figuring Summer would be… detained by Jimmy for some time, Cameron kept to his room once he returned. With her lover returned, he knew she would have little need for his company. He packed up his luggage – twice after discovering a pair of socks under the bed. Sitting on the edge of the bed, staring down at the dog, he tried to ignore the occasional moan he heard from Summer’s bedroom across the hotel suite.

“Well, Queenie, it seems I’m no longer needed here,” he spoke to the dog.

She merely wagged her tail.

“And you and I both know that Jimmy will try to drive me away once he is finished… whatever with Summer,” he glanced out the door, at the closed French doors. “We should beat him to it.”

The dog barked once.

“Good thinking,” he nodded and reached for the phone.

After a thirty minute conversation with his mother, Cameron hung up the phone and searched for his wallet. Finding a slip of paper shoved inside with the phone number to the Rolling Stone office so they could arrange his flight home, he sat back down and reached for the phone. As he lifted it from the base, a knock sounded at the suite door. Dropping the phone back down, he headed to answer, presuming neither Summer nor Jimmy heard it. Finding both the bellboy and a room service attendant on the other side, Cameron fumbled for a moment.

He directed Jimmy’s luggage to be left outside the master bedroom, near the wall where it would not be tripped over. The breakfast was set up on the dining table while the young man retrieved his wallet to tip the two hotel workers. Left alone with only the dog once more, Cameron lifted one of the silver domes and stole a breakfast sausage off the table. Knowing Summer was likely starving as she always seemed beyond hungry in the morning, he headed towards the closed doors.

Knocking softly, he spoke loudly, “Summer, your breakfast is here.”

A moment later, one of the doors quickly opened. Her bright blue eyes met his and she grinned. Before he could say anything she kissed him quickly.

“I’ll be right out. Jimmy just got in the shower,” she declared and closed the door again.

Once the door closed, he realized she answered with just a sheet wrapped around her body. A flush filled his cheeks as he turned away from the closed doors. This was going to be the most awkward day of his life, starting with breakfast.
