Title: Love Runs Deeper: Chapter Nine, New Music
Rating: PG-13 [mild language, drugs, sexual tension]

Summary: Lindsey introduces Lily to Fleetwood Mac musically first.

As a receptionist and secretary, Lily was not unfamiliar with office supplies, though she had never formally shopped for them before. They had always been provided to her in some fashion. Stepping into the store, holding Lindsey’s hand, was more than a revelation to her. Never before had she envisioned… so many things. It was almost as awe-inspiring as going to the department store had been.

They wandered a bit before Lindsey picked up a shopping basket and moved to fill it. He selected a number of pens and pencils before moving to the calendars and planners. After some discussion, they picked up two leather-bound diaries and a smart-looking briefcase to keep it all in. He quickly paid for everything and kissed Lily before leading her back to the car.

“What would you like to do now?” he asked as he stowed the purchases in the trunk.

“Whatever you want,” Lily replied.

His hands surrounded her face and kissed her sweetly, “I want to do whatever you want to do, sweetie.”

“I… Linds…”

“Shall we go on a walk in a garden perhaps?”

Her golden eyes instantly lit up. With a grin, he brushed his lips across hers and then reached for the car door. Once settled in the car, the two headed away from the office supply store. Lindsey considered their options for a few blocks, his fingers idly tapping along with the music on the radio. Deciding to take her down to a small park on the waterfront, he glanced over at her. His blue eyes dropped to her fingers playing with the hem of her short dress.

Stopped at a stop sign, he reached over and touched her hand softly, “Lil?”

Her eyes flicked to his and she smiled slightly, “I was just… I was just wondering about… well… music.”

“And what were you wondering?” he continued down the road.

“Well… I don’t know anything about your music…”

He smirked, “I think we can do something about that.”

“Before I have to meet the band?”

Lindsey stared at the street sign for a long moment, “Before you meet the band.”

After purchasing a new sound system, as his was back in Los Angeles, Lindsey headed towards Amoeba Records. He kept his sunglasses on as they stepped into the store. Lily thought it odd but did not say anything. Leading her directly to the correct section of the store, he released her hand as he flipped through the ‘F’ section of albums.

As he pulled out all of the Fleetwood Mac albums available, including the one he and Stevie played on, Lily glanced around the store. She instantly noticed people kept glancing at her boyfriend. She wondered if perhaps he had been recognized. If that was the case, which the more she thought about it, the more she was certain it was true.

Leaning over, she whispered to him, “Lindsey, everyone is looking at us.”

He quickly kissed her cheek, “Because you’re gorgeous.”

Lily’s cheeks instantly went red, “I think they know who you are.”

“Nah, no one ever knows who I am,” he responded.

“No… I think they do,” she breathed, her eyes darting around.

Lindsey smirked, “Unlikely.”

Lily sighed, accepting the stack of vinyls from him. With a wink, he turned and led her to a different section of the store. He picked up a couple of his favorite albums, intending to play them for her so that she would understand his musical influences, before making his way to the end of the ‘B’ section. He pulled out another album and stuck it on the top of her stack. Her eyes instantly dropped down.

“Lindsey… this…”

“My first album,” he stated.

“And this is… Stevie?” her finger touched the nude woman on the cover.

“Yes.”

“Oh.”

Not noticing the glimpse of worry in her eyes, Lindsey turned and headed towards the cashier. While he would have loved to browse more and find a new little gem, he did not want to overwhelm Lily. It would be enough to listen to a few Fleetwood albums and the Buckingham Nicks album. He would not push too much.

Lily placed the albums on the counter, ever aware that the cashier connected the albums with the man on her left. However, Lindsey seemed completely oblivious. He pulled out his wallet and thumbed through the bills it contained. Neither the cashier nor the musician spoke and it was driving Lily insane.

“Yeah, he’s exactly who you think he is,” she finally sighed and stomped away from the counter, heading directly towards the door.

Lindsey caught her hand before she was out of reach, “Lil, don’t go.”

“Stop pretending like they don’t all know who you are. Everyone has been staring at you since we came in. They all know who you are and probably think it’s weird that you’re buying your own albums,” she retorted in a low voice.

“Let’s just get the albums and then we can talk about it,” he stated, glancing at the cashier.

She sighed, “Fine.”

Returning to the counter, Lindsey smiled sheepishly and held out payment for the purchase. He accepted the bag silently, not even handing it to Lily as if to explain it nonverbally. Instead, he slipped his arm around his girlfriend and led her back out to the car. Neither spoke as they headed away from the store, once more park-bound.

“They all knew who you were, Linds.”

He glanced at her, “I should have prepared you for that. I’m sorry.”

“No preparation needed, but some recognition of it would be nice. You completely ignored it,” Lily pointed out.

Stopped at an intersection, Lindsey reached for his cigarettes and shook one out of the pack, “To be completely honest, I haven’t had to face that kind of a situation… alone before. I didn’t quite know what to do.”

“Oh,” she responded, her eyes dropping to her hem. “I’m sorry.”

“Lily,” he paused to light his cigarette before the light changed, “you don’t need to apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just something… we will have to get used to.”

“I… okay.”

“Do you still want to go to the park? Or do you want to go back to the room and listen to music?”

Lily hesitated for a moment, “Go back to the room.”

Lying on the bed, Lily smiled as Lindsey laid his head upon her stomach. He lightly tapped a rhythm along with The Beach Boys song playing, the pads of his fingers resting on her hip. Having already listened to all of the Fleetwood Mac albums and now working their way through the first of three Beach Boys albums, Lily felt like her head was spinning. She had never before realized how… affecting music could be. She felt as if her emotions were all over the place and it was… quite a bit unnerving.

As the room went silent, Lindsey moved to turn the record over. Lily quickly circled her arms around him, keeping him from getting up. His eyes flicked up to hers, trying to read her reasoning without speaking. Completely confused and not at all certain how to read her face, he stretched up and kissed her softly.

“Can we stop?” she asked. “We’ve listened to music for hours, Linds. It’s making my head spin.”

His eyes widened slightly, “Oh, Lil, I’m sorry. It has to be a lot to take in. We’ll stop for now.”

“Thank you,” she smiled and kissed him again.

“How about…” he glanced at the window, noticing night had fallen, “…we go get something to eat?”

“How about we just stay in?”

Lindsey’s eyes went back to hers and he smiled, “I’ll call for room service.”

As he pulled away and turned off the stereo, Lily adjusted on the bed but did not roll out of it. She tucked her hands under her head, her golden hair spread messily about the pillow. Hanging up the phone after ordering their meals, Lindsey returned to the bed, crawled over to her, and kissed her mouth sweetly. As she kept her hands tucked away, he continued to kiss her. His lips danced over her face, his teeth gently nibbling along her jawline. Lily sighed happily, but did not move to touch or kiss him. His lips kissed down her neck, pausing to suck gently on the juncture of her neck and shoulder.

“Lindsey,” she purred softly.

He smiled against her skin before kissing down to the curve of her dress’s neckline. His lips danced along the hemline as his hand ran over her slight curves. His eyes flicked up to her face as his hand gently brushed her breast. Lily’s hands remained under her head, her eyes closed. She did not tense or pull away. Lindsey smiled again and gently cupped the breast he previously brushed. She groaned softly, but still did not tell him to stop.

As his hand shifted to pinch her nipple gently, a knock sounded at the door. Lily instantly tensed at that and Lindsey internally groaned. Moving back up, he kissed her mouth briefly before pulling away to meet the room service attendant for their meal. With all of the food set on the small table and the attendant gone, Lindsey beckoned Lily over. Not allowing her to sit, he pulled her into his lap as he sat, nuzzling her gently. Lily giggled softly.

“You know…” she trailed off, watching him pour beer into a frosted glass.

“What, Lil?”

“Today was the first time I’ve really… experienced music.”

“What do you mean?” he set down the bottle and offered her the glass first.

After taking a sip, her nose crinkling slightly, Lily responded, “I mean I’ve heard music in public spaces, like at work, but I’ve never really listened to music before.”

His eyes widened as he looked at her, “Really?”

“Linds, you know what my growing up was like,” her eyes flicked to the silver dome as he lifted it off, “there really wasn’t any time for entertainment things…”

Lindsey quickly kissed her temple, “Well then I am honored to introduce you to music, my sweet.”

Lily smiled, “I look forward to what more you have to share with me. Just maybe not all at once again.”

He chuckled, “Okay. I’ll ease you into it next time. Chicken or steak?”

“Share both?”

Stepping into the suite after smoking a joint, Lindsey briefly panicked when he did not immediately see Lily. Naturally, the bathroom door opened and she stepped out. Her golden hair shimmered past her shoulders, brushed until it was silky smooth. A white satin nightgown skimmed her slight body, ending a lacy border mid-thigh. His breath completely caught in his throat and he found himself unable to step further. She was absolutely beautiful and ever so sexy. Capturing her in his arms would be purely divine, but after her fearful reaction the previous night he knew that would be a very foolish choice on his part. Therefore, he remained frozen just inside the door, his heart pounding, his eroding rational thoughts attempting to temper his libido.

“Linds,” she spoke softly but it felt like a shout to him.

“Yeah?” he croaked.

She approached the bed, her long fingers reaching for the coverlet, “Are you coming to bed?”

Watching as she folded back the comforter and topsheet, not even glancing in his direction, Lindsey internally groaned. He wanted her so bad. However, he could not and would not move to deepen that part of their relationship without her express request. As she leaned over to adjust the pills, the front of her nightgown dipped down just enough to give him a good glimpse at her breasts and that nearly broke all of his resolve. Her eyes flicked back up to him, clearly wanting him to answer what he had not.

“Um… yes…” he finally responded. “But first I need to… brush my teeth.”

Feeling her eyes watch him awkwardly hurry into the bathroom, Lindsey breathed a sigh of relief as he closed the bathroom door between them. He knew he could not go back out there, even if he managed to quiet his arousal by actually brushing his teeth. He needed release, quickly. With a groan, he unzipped his pants and pulled out his erection. Stepping towards the toilet, he flipped up the seat and closed his eyes.

After turning out all of the lights, Lily crawled into the center of the bed, pulling the covers about her. She had recognized the look in his eyes before he disappeared into the bathroom. Normally it would have scared her, but something had slightly changed that evening. Whether it was the musical journey they took together or the three beers they shared, she was uncertain. The reason did not entirely matter; all that did was she was not afraid of him.

The bathroom door opened a few minutes later, drawing Lily’s attention. Briefly silhouetted by the bright light, Lindsey hesitated briefly before flicking off the light and heading towards the bed. She listened as he paused and disrobed. Lifting the bedcovers as he approached, she smiled as the bed sank with his weight. He hesitated to reach for her, but Lily quickly remedied this by snuggling against his bare chest as she dropped the bedcovers over him.

With her head resting on his chest, Lindsey softly played with her long hair, “You are so beautiful, Lil.”

She smiled, “I never felt like that before. Thank you.”

He kissed the top of her head, “I hope to teach you to believe in yourself. And to show you that you too are important.”

“I… I feel that way when I’m with you… or at least I think I do,” she responded.

“I am… glad that you seem to be relaxing. I know we’ve only been together for a short while, but… I’ve already see such a remarkable change.”

“It’s all because of you, Lindsey. If you hadn’t… if you hadn’t stumbled into my life, I would still be oh so stuck. But now… I don’t quite know what to do with all this freedom. I’m still afraid that I’m going to wake up and this will have all been a dream,” she confessed. “I know that it’s not but… Lindsey…”

“The only change that’s going to happen is things are going to keep getting better,” he stated.

“But the band…”

He kissed the top of her head again, “Tomorrow you will meet Mick, John, and Chris. Life will get a bit more hectic, but that will not diminish how important you are to me.”

“I know… I know…”

“I think you’ll like them. I really do.”

“And Stevie?”

Lindsey instantly tensed, “Don’t worry about her. I’m not.”
