Title: Don't Look Away: Chapter Thirty-one, Counterpoint
Rating: NC-17 [nudity, sex, language]

Summary: John takes Cady home while Pete is kept at the hospital for observation.  Pete is moody and very ready to return home when they return.  Cady and Pete make another symphony...

Once Pete finally succumbed to sleep, Cady stood and headed out of his room.  She glanced around the white hallway briefly before noticing John seated in a plastic chair halfway down the corridor, dozing.  She headed towards him and lightly kicked his boot.  He snorted and looked up at the disturbance.  Seeing Pete’s girlfriend brought a smile to his face.

“Cade.”

She smiled slightly at him, “I didn’t expect to find you out here.”

He shrugged and reached into his pocket for a cigarette, “How’s he doing?”

“He’s asleep finally,” Cady held out her hand for one. “So I guess I’ll have to find a cab to get home.”

“Nonsense,” John stood up and lit her cigarette. “I’ll give you a lift.”

“You sure?”

Lighting his own cigarette, he nodded, “Of course, love.”

They headed down the hallway silently, John smoking his cigarette.  He glanced sideways at her, noticing she mostly just held onto the smoldering stick.  She took a single drag once they stepped out of the hospital and stubbed it out.  Her eyes flicked to his, waiting for his direction to his vehicle.  With a smile, John held out his hand for her, squeezed it once, and tugged her towards the parking lot.

“I have to tell you,” he spoke up as they neared his car, “Pete’s parents…”

She stopped, watching him open the passenger door, “What?”

“They came to see him…”

Cady hesitated, her eyes locked with his, “They did?  Why didn’t they come in?”

“Well…”

“What?”

“I wouldn’t let them,” he stated plainly before closing her door and walking around the car.

Watching him get into the car, Cady tried to ascertain his motives on her own.  Not certain, she remained silent, waiting for him to explain.  Instead, John started up the car and pulled out of the parking space.  He lit another cigarette, but still did not speak.

Sighing, Cady looked directly at him, even though she felt slightly nervous about being a passenger in a car again, “Why wouldn’t you let them see Pete?”

He shot her a quick glance, “You know how they get.”

“Actually, I don’t.  I’ve met his brothers, as they’ve come over to the flat.  But I haven’t met his parents yet,” she claimed.

“You haven’t?”

“No,” she responded cautiously. “We were on our way over to their house for dinner when…”

“Ah, yes of course.”

Waiting for a moment, Cady expected him to continue, but John did not speak, “John?”

“Yeah?”

“Why didn’t you let them see Pete?”

“They are… the epitome of mean drunks,” he declared. “It was better if they stayed away.”

“But wouldn’t Pete have liked to—”

“No.  You had barely calmed him down.  They would have upset him again and that would have caused problems for everything,” John stated.

“But—”

“Trust me, Cade,” he glanced at her.

“I do,” she instantly responded. “I just thought that…”

“They’re not good people, Cady.  They’re not.  That’s why Pete is resisting you meeting them.  Today was just not the day for that to happen.”

She sighed, her eyes dropping to her lap, “Okay.”

John remained silent for a moment, “Love, when is the last time you ate?”

Her blue eyes flicked back to his, “I don’t… remember.”

He shook his head, “We’ll stop at a pub before we go to your flat.  You need to eat.”

An hour later, over two hours past midnight, John escorted Cady up to the apartment.  She had not spoken much during their meal, but in a loud pub, he had not expected it.  At least she had eaten, so he felt better in taking her home.  At least when he saw Pete next, he could assure his mate that his girl had been taken care of while he was in the hospital.

Waiting until Cady opened the door, John softly spoke, “Well, good night, Cade.  Ring me when you want to head back to the hospital in the morning.”

Her eyes locked with his, “Will you…”

“What, Cade?”

“Will you come in and stay until I’m asleep?” she asked softly. “I’m afraid once I close my eyes…”

“Of course, Cade,” he nodded.

Smiling slightly, she stepped into the apartment and flicked on a light.  She moved mechanically into the bedroom.  Not entirely sure what he should do, John sat on the sofa in the living room.  He picked up a random book from the coffee table, though his attention was focused on listening to Cady in the bedroom.

Returning to the living room wearing one of Pete’s tee shirts and likely nothing else, Cady sat down next to John.  He tried to ignore her state of undress and smiled crookedly at her.  She shifted closer and pressed her cheek to his shoulder.  He quickly set the book back down on the table and looped his arm around her shoulders.

“He’s going to be okay, right?” she whispered.

“Of course he is.  They’re only keeping him overnight to observe him.  He’s fine,” John declared.

“Tell me something… happy.”

“Well… when Pete and I were young he used to…”

Midway through the story, Cady’s body completely relaxed and she drifted into sleep.  John noticed a few minutes later, letting his words fall silent.  Unsure of what to do, he silently debated whether or not he should remain where he was or carry her to the bed.  Deciding both of them would be better off in the morning if he moved her to the bed, John awkwardly slipped his other hand under her knees and struggled to stand.  Cady mumbled but did not wake.

With some silent swearing, John carried her into the bedroom and carefully laid her on the bed she shared with his best mate.  He was very grateful the room was dark as he was certain the shirt pulled up and revealed her feminity.  Ignoring her nudity because of the darkness was easy, allowing him to quickly cover her with the blanket folded over in half.  He kissed her brow softly before turning and heading out of the bedroom.  Intending to leave the apartment now that she slept, John hesitated at the bedroom door for a moment, pulling it closed.

“John?” she muttered softly, halting the door before it latched.

“Yes, Cade?”

“Don’t go… don’t leave me alone tonight.”

“I’ll be right outside on the sofa.  Go back to sleep, sweet girl,” he responded. “I’ll be right outside.”

Waking to the scent of coffee, Cady stretched, inadvertently baring her nude bottom half.  Thinking nothing of it, she rolled out of bed and slipped into the bathroom.  After relieving herself, washing her face, and brushing the knots out of her long, brown hair, she headed out of the bedroom and into the kitchen.  Her eyes widened slightly, not expecting to see John instead of Pete.  The previous night’s activities suddenly rushed back into her consciousness and she wavered slightly.

John turned, coffee cup in hand, as she wavered on her feet, “Cade?”

Her eyes went to his as his free hand went to her hip, steadying her, “Is Pete…okay?”

He leaned forward and kissed her forehead, “You must have had good dreams then.  Pete is fine.  I have already called and checked in with him.  They want to release him at noon.”

“Really?”

John nodded and offered her the coffee cup, “That gives you plenty of time to wake up and get all pretty for him.”

Accepting the cup, she sipped it slowly, “How did you know I like my coffee with—”

He winked, “I just did.  Sit and wake up.  I’ll have breakfast ready in a few moments.”

“Breakfast?”

Not saying anything, John turned back into the galley kitchen.  Cady hesitated for a moment before heading to the small dining table with her cup of coffee.  A smile teased her lips as she noticed the newspaper was already separated out for her.  She sat down and started to peruse the newspaper, silently chastising herself for automatically searching out articles on the US still.

“Your breakfast,” John set a plate with two fried eggs and toast in front of her.

Her lips parted in surprise, “You know how to make eggs?”

“Mum taught me,” he answered, setting down a second plate and sitting across from her. “Don’t you?”

“I can’t cook one damn thing.  I’m sure I would even burn this toast,” she declared before taking a bite.

John chuckled, “I’m sure there is something you can cook.”

“Salads.  I’m good at salads,” she declared. “But only green ones.  And only if I purchase the dressing.”

He shook his head, “I don’t believe you.  There has to be something more.”

“Ask Pete.  There’s a reason the fire extinguisher is in plain view.”

He laughed, “I will ask him.  Somehow I think there’s a good story in this.”

An hour later, the two headed back to the hospital.  Fed and showered, Cady was in good spirits.  She laughed at all of John’s jokes, even muttered a few in response.  John was certain this turn of attitude would make Pete’s homecoming that much better.

“I’ll wait out here while you collect your boyfriend,” John smirked as he lit up a cigarette.

“Okay, thanks,” she leaned across the car and kissed his cheek quickly before getting out of the large vehicle.

Expecting to meet Pete up in his room, Cady nearly skid to a halt steps into the hospital.  Once more Pete was not in his room, but rather at the nurse’s station.  He was not bellowing at the young women, but Cady had a feeling he was close to it, especially when one approached with an empty wheelchair.  Without pause, she hurried over to him, her hand gently touching his lower back before the nurse spoke to him.

“Hi, love,” she kissed his argumentative mouth.

“Cady,” his face softened and his arms quickly circled her, “I’ve missed you.”

She kissed him again, “I’ve missed you too.  Ready to go home?”

“You have no idea how much,” he responded.

Her fingers laced with his, “Then let’s go.”

Before the nurses could attempt to force Pete into a wheelchair, Cady guided him out of the hospital.  They approached John’s car and the bassist held out a cigarette.  Accepting it with a smirk, Pete lit it up as John headed to slip behind the wheel.  Inhaling deeply, the guitarist calmed his nerves as the car rumbled to life again.  With another quick kiss from Cady, he climbed in after her and thanked his best friend for driving.

When they arrived back at their apartment building, Pete hesitated.   He leaned around Cady and shook John’s hand, but said nothing.  Keeping silent, he opened the door and climbed out.  Cady quickly kissed John’s cheek and invited him up for a drink.

“I better not.  You need to go devote all your attention to Pete,” he responded.

She nodded, “Thank you for being such a good friend, John.  I’ll see you later.”

Heading up to the flat, Pete remained silent.  Cady found it slightly unnerving, but passed it off on his need to readjust after being in the sterile hospital overnight.  Her lips brushed his before she unlocked the door and let him into the flat.

Pete took two steps into the apartment, letting the door close before he turned to Cady, “Did you sleep with him?”

The keys in Cady’s hands instantly dropped to the wood floor, “Excuse me?”

“Did you sleep with John?”

She rolled her eyes and picked up the keys, “Not this again.”

As Cady attempted to step around him, Pete’s fingers closed over her wrist, “He was wearing the same thing he was yesterday.”

Her blue eyes went to his, “Well, congrats.  You’re more observant than most men.”

“Did you sleep with him?”

“Just because you keep asking me that, doesn’t mean I’m going to answer it.”

He trailed after her as she headed into the galley kitchen, “Why not?  Because you did?”

Cady whirled around and quickly slapped him, “Don’t you ever accuse me of cheating on you again, Pete, especially with your best friend.  I’m your girlfriend, not his mistress.”

His hand rubbed his stinging cheek, “But he was here.”

“Of course he was!  He’s your best friend and one of my only friends in this country.  He slept on the couch while I slept in our bed, wearing your shirt.  I asked him to stay because I was certain I was going to have nightmares about the accident.  So yes, John stayed the night.  But he did not stay in our bed.  And he did not even attempt to get between my legs,” she retorted acidly.

His shoulders slumped and he sighed, “Cady… I’m sorry.”

She folded her arms across her chest and stared at him, saying nothing.

“I don’t… I don’t know what got into me.  I was just… I was just laying in that hospital room last night and I got to thinking about you and John and—”

“There is no me and John.  We are strictly friends,” she interrupted.

“But if something were to happen to me…”

“He would take care of me, as any good friend should, but nothing more, Pete,” Cady declared. “He’s loyal to you.  I’m loyal to you.  What more do you need?”

He sighed, his eyes dropping to the floor, “I just can’t understand why you would want to be with me over him.”

Cady’s finger went to his chin and tilted his face back up so that their eyes could meet.  Her lips gently touched his, hoping he would understand with that simple gesture.  He did not relax or release any emotion at all, so she kissed him yet again.

“Because I love you.  I love you for everything that you are and everything that you will be.  You are my choice, Pete.  I love you,” she declared once more before kissing him.

“But…”

“No buts about it.  I love you and only you,” she proclaimed. “Why else do you think I was so distraught yesterday?  There were times, especially before the ambulance arrived, that I thought you were…  That I was going to lose you, Pete.  I would be lost without you.”

He stepped closer and slipped his arms around her waist, “I am always lost without you by my side.”

“They should have let me stay last night.”

Pete nuzzled her, “I wish they had.  I hardly slept without you.”

“Do you want to… lay down now?” she suggested.

“Only if you will with me.”

“Then let’s go to the bedroom,” Cady pulled out of his embrace and led him towards the bedroom.

Silently, she pulled off his shoes and pants once he sat on the edge of the bed.  He smirked and peeled of his tee shirt before crawling into the center of the unmade bed in just his shorts.  Without a pause, Cady quickly stripped down to just her panties and snuggled up against him, pulling the blanket tightly around them.

“Cady?”

“Yes, Pete.”

“I love you.”

Waking a few hours later with a ringing in his head, Pete carefully rolled out of bed, leaving his sleeping girlfriend alone.    As he stepped out of the bedroom, he realized the ringing was not in his head, but rather the telephone.  Quickly snatching it up, he grunted a quick greeting.  A moment later, with a scowl on his face, he slammed the phone down.

“Pete?” Cady’s soft voice came from the bedroom.

Turning around to his girlfriend standing there in just her panties, her long hair a mess, Pete instantly forgot all about the phone call.  He stepped forward, his hands lifting to cup her naked breasts.  Her eyes remained locked with his, though she slightly whimpered as he massaged her breasts.  Smiling crookedly, Pete leaned over and kissed her lips.

“You are so bloody sexy,” he muttered, nudging her back towards the bed.

“Pete, who was on the,” she tumbled backwards onto the bed, “phone?”

“Nevermind about that,” Pete declared and leaned down to take her right nipple into his mouth.

She moaned as his hand squeezed her other breast.  Her fingers disappeared into hair before brushing over his stitches.   Suddenly, Cady pushed him away from her breast, worry in her eyes.

“Pete, we shouldn’t be—”

“The doctor didn’t say I couldn’t.”

“But shouldn’t you be taking it easy?” she asked, trying to ignore the fact his hand now cupped her sex, lightly petting her panties.

His mouth kissed hers, “Then don’t make it so difficult.”

A soft moan left her lips as long fingers pushed aside her panties and slipped between her petals.   Closing her eyes, Cady arched her back up, moaning again once he returned to sucking on her nipple.  Before she could protest, Pete pushed down his briefs and quickly sheathed himself inside her wet sex.  Groaning, she wrapped her legs around his waist, smiling slightly as Pete moved them to the center of their large bed.

He kissed her mouth deeply before withdrawing from her body to pull her panties fully off.  They landed on top of his briefs on the floor next to the bed, not that he paid any attention to that at all.  Instead, he spread her legs wide and leaned down, licking up her entire length.  Once he reached her clitoris, he sucked the swollen bud while stroking two fingers into her wetness.  He fingered her until she begged him for more.

With a smile, he quickly kissed each breast before thrusting fully into her.  Her fingers quickly dug into his forearms, squeezing in rhythm with his thrusts.  He pushed up onto his knees, his hands holding onto the backs of her thighs, pressing her legs wide and towards her shoulders.  Eyes closed, Pete thrust hard and deep into her body, loving the symphony of erotic sounds from her body.

“Oh god, Pete.  I love how you fuuuuuu…” her moaning cut off her groaned words.

Smirking, he glanced down at her.  His eyes combed over her body, watching beads of sweat follow her curves.  Gaze traveling down her abdomen from her breasts, Pete froze.  His attention focused on the dark marks across her stomach.  His hands released her legs; his fingers softly ran over the dark bruises.  His erection softened and slipped out of her.

“Cady…” he muttered, softly caressing her skin. “Did I…?”

Propping herself up on her elbows, her eye remained focused on his face, “I’m okay, Pete.  The bruises merely show that the seatbelt did its job.”

His fingers danced over the bruises again, “But if I had been—”

She quickly sat up fully and quickly kissed him, “I’m okay.  The doctors checked me at the hospital.  I’m fine.”

“Does it… does it hurt?” his eyes returned to her stomach.

“Make love to me, Pete.  Let’s forget all about the accident.”

Struggling to pull his attention away from the marks, Pete’s eyes slowly returned to hers.  Without pause, Cady carefully leaned down, circled her fingers around his cock, and guided the tip between her lips.  Slowly her fingers began to stroke him while her tongue and lips sucked on his tip.  As her other hand reached down to cup his balls, Pete’s erection slowly returned.  His hands disappeared into her hair, gently guiding her bobbing on his cock.

Once he was fully erect again, Cady’s mouth pulled away, though her fingers continued to stroke his length and tickle his balls.  Her blue eyes locked with his before she grinned and completely released his cock.  Easily deciding he would forget about the bruises if he could not see them, Cady turned over, wiggling her hips at him.  With a slight groan, Pete pushed forward and quickly buried himself back in her body.

His hands held onto her hips, digging in slightly.  Groaning and moaning, Cady’s fingers dug into the pillow that muffled her erotic squeals.  Needing to hear her voice fully join the symphony, Pete grabbed a fistful of long hair and gently pulled.  Her back arched as her head came up at his bidding.  He pushed fully into her and leaned down.  His lips kissed up her spine before he tugged her head to the side.  Their lips briefly met before he returned to thrusting in and out of her, her hair still clutched in his hand.

Held exactly how Pete wanted, Cady’s passion-filled moans reverberated off the walls of their bedroom.  Hearing her voice adding counterpoint to his thrusts nearly pushed Pete over the edge.  He bit down on his bottom lip, trying to focus on something else other than how her body squished and squeezed him.  He wanted her to reach the zenith first.

“Caaaaady,” he grunted, tugging on her hair, “please… baby…”

“Al…most… fuck… Pete…” she breathed.

“Uhhhh, I can’t…” he continued to thrust hard and fast.

“Peeeeeeete.”

As she screamed his name, energy shot down his spine.  He pushed as deeply into her as possible as his body contracted.  She moaned and pressed back against him, wiggling her hips in a circle to rub his cock against her G-spot.  As he shot streams of sticky, white semen into her, Cady’s body tensed and quickly squeezed his cock tightly.  He groaned again and collapsed against her back, pressing her down onto the mattress.

He kissed her shoulder softly, “I love you, Cady.”

“I love you too, Pete,” she pulled away enough to turn on her side, facing him. “And only you.”
