Title: Alternate Realities: Chapter Twenty-nine, Anywhere in the World
Rating: PG-13 [language, innuendo]

Summary: Moody, Kylia is not enjoying London at all. Can Adam turn it all around?

London should have been amazing. He had planned to show her… well, everything he could in the short amount of time they were in the European metro. However, when he was not busy promoting the album, Kylia would not rouse from the hotel room. He knew some of it was because physically her period made her want to hide away in the bed all day, but the rest… the rest had to be emotional. At first he kept his distance, not entirely sure how to approach her.

But when he heard her crying while he brushed his teeth, everything changed.

Rinsing out his mouth, he headed into the bedroom of the hotel suite. Saying nothing, he slipped into the bed behind her and wrapped his arms around her. His lips touched her ear before he whispered how much he loved her. Her body instantly trembled with sobs.

“Sweetheart,” he muttered, “don’t cry. Please don’t cry.”

“B-but…”

“Shhh, everything is going to be fine, Kylia. Everything,” he declared.

“I’m not p-pregnant,” she sobbed.

Finally understanding the root of her tears, Adam squeezed her again, “Not this time, but we will be soon.”

“I th-thought f-for sure…”

“I know. But now we know that we want to have children together, so we can better prepare for that. Don’t you want to be properly prepared when we get pregnant?”

She remained silent for a moment, “Y-yes.”

“Then sweetheart, don’t look at this as a failure, but rather… the source of us having that conversation,” Adam pointed out.

“I…”

“I love you, Kylia. And I want to have children with you. You are my future.”

Taking a deep breath, her body trembled as she exhaled. She repeated it three times before her breaths became less ragged and uneven. Slowly she rolled onto her back so that her eyes could look up into his. Adam’s finger gently caressed her cheek before he softly kissed her lips.

“Come to the festival with me tomorrow,” he requested softly.

“Adam…”

“You haven’t been to a show yet. And this way, you’ll get to see other performers too, not just your handsome boyfriend,” he winked.

“I don’t know…”

“Kylia, I know you’re feeling sad and… stuff, but I think it would be good for you to get out. Do you really want the memories of coming to London and spending the entire time in the hotel?”

She shook her head.

“Then come with me to the festival tomorrow and the following day we’ll see some sights around town before heading to Australia,” Adam declared.

“Australia?”

“Yeah. That’s where we’re going next.”

“I thought we were going back home,” she stated.

“Well yeah… eventually.”

“Eventually?”

Adam paused, “Well… now that we know you’re not pregnant, we’re going to go directly to Australia, instead of going home to see your doctor.”

She blinked, “When were you going to tell me?”

“I just did?”

Kylia slowly sat up, “When did you change our plans?”

“Earlier today. I thought getting away to Australia would be good. Like Hawaii was.”

Her eyes narrowed slightly, “So your answer to me ever being upset is to take me on some vacation?”

“No, not at all. I have to go to Australia no matter what. I thought you would want to go with me. That’s all.”

“Adam, you can’t just—”

“Ky, stop it. You have absolutely no reason to be upset with me over this. If you want to go home, we’ll change your ticket and you can go home, hang out with my mom, pet your cat. Or you can just let it stay and come and experience Australia with me,” he declared.

She remained silent, staring at him. Her emotions, oddly not in check at all, swirled around in her mind. While his statements did not seem selfish or really all that out-of-bounds, she was feeling like… she had no control or say over her life.

It made him no better than Jayden in that moment.

Seeing a shift in her eyes, Adam cautiously reached for her. Kylia instantly evaded his grasp and stood up. Saying nothing, she disappeared into the bathroom. He got up to follow her, but before he reached the door, she closed and locked it. Sighing, he stepped away as the shower turned on. He picked up the phone and quickly dialed his mother’s number.

“Hey, Ma. I screwed up somehow…”

Holding Adam’s hand as he weaved through people backstage, Kylia glanced around. As the first time she actually attended any of his performances in the three months they had been dating, she was feeling out of place. It had little to do with the fact she was curvier than many of the women; that she really had not noticed. It had everything to do with the fact she knew nothing about the music world. She did not know who any of the people they walked pass were, what their purposes were. She felt like a fish out of water.

She relaxed some once they reunited with his band. At least she knew them.

After his conversation with his mother, which lasted as long as Kylia’s hour-long shower had, he understood what he had done wrong. He was not entirely sure how to rectify what he had done, but he was open to trying. He wanted her to be happy, always happy.

“Ky,” he turned to her, “what would you like to do? See some performances? Meet the musicians? Get something to eat?”

“Whatever you do.”

He shook his head, “No, you decide.”

Her eyes held his, “I’m kinda hungry.”

“Great,” he grinned. “What would you like?”

“Um… fish and chips?”

Adam quickly kissed her, “I’m on it. Don’t go far.”

Left alone, Kylia wandered around backstage. She did not sick with the band, opting instead to explore further. Though she passed by other performers, she did not greet any of them. Not only because she felt shy without Adam beside her, but because she definitely preferred blending into the background. It allowed her to get a better feel of any situation.

She watched men hit on scantily-dressed women. A smile teased at her lips as she heard one shoot down a particularly horrible come on. Flushing as she heard sexual moaning as she continued to walk on, Kylia was a bit surprised to find the mythos of the music scene to be just as vapid and shallow as she thought. It made her wonder even more where her place really was. She was certainly not a normal rock star girlfriend. What had she gotten into?

Sighing, she turned around and headed back to where Adam’s band remained. She recognized a few of the people she passed, but she was not entirely sure if that was because she already passed them or they were actually celebrities. But it mattered not. She was just another face in a sea of people.

Except to Adam. He saw her in the throngs of backstage people from what felt like a mile away. His hidden panic at her disappearance instantly dissipated. He grinned as she neared, holding up two cardboard boats with fish and chips in them. Kissing his cheek, Kylia accepted one of the trays before following him to sit down out of the way of foot traffic.

“Where’d you go?” he asked, biting into his fried fish.

“Just around,” she responded vaguely. “Is there vinegar on this?”

His eyes widened, “Yes. Is that bad?”

Kylia smirked, “It’s fine. I was just confirming the flavor.”

“Oh… okay. Good then,” he flashed her another smile. “See anyone you know?”

She snorted, “This is your world, not mine.”

Adam paused for a moment, “You must have recognized someone.”

“Possibly,” she shrugged.

Deciding to drop the subject, Adam realized he had not purchased anything to drink. Flagging down a roadie, he requested two Cokes before glancing back at his girlfriend. He held her eyes for a moment before flashing another smile and returning to his food. Keeping up with small talk as they noshed through their meal, Adam tried to keep everything light and cheerful. He knew Kylia had wanted to stay at the hotel, in bed, so he was careful to make certain he did nothing to make her regret her change of heart.

“We’re going on soon,” he declared, taking her hand and leading her towards the stage an hour later. “I’ll show you where you can stand so you can see everything.”

Once he left to join the band to prepare to take the stage, Kylia was suddenly very aware of her nerves. Though not many could see her, at least from the audience, she was certain some people could see her. After the certain publicity they got from purchasing pregnancy tests together, she knew there was no way she was unknown any more. People might know who she was, might take photos of her, even though she was not attached to Adam’s side at that very moment.

So focused on being picture perfect, Kylia nearly forgot to pay attention to Adam’s performance. He was halfway through the first song before she snapped to attention and started to watch and listen to him. Her eyes widened slightly and slowly a smile curved her lips. He was even more amazing on stage than she expected. A light seemed to emanate from him.

Sadness touched her thoughts as the band finished their short set and headed off the stage. Though Adam explained they were not playing a full concert, Kylia felt let down. It was almost like they started to hit their stride and were suddenly wrenched off the stage. She wanted more. As that thought crossed her mind, she realized that very emotion played very well into the very reason they were at that small festival: to promote their new album. If she wanted more and she heard the new album many times already, people in the audience surely had to be feeling the same way and would go out and purchase said album. Promotion suddenly all made sense to her.

“What did you think?” Adam asked before sucking on a water bottle.

“You were amazing,” she smiled, taking his offered hand. “I wish you played longer.”

“You’ll be wishing otherwise in a few months. I’m sure,” he chuckled.

“I don’t know. If that was just a glimpse of what a full concert is…”

Adam grinned, “I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

“I did… now what?”

“Well, we could stick around and watch some of the other performers,” he paused to take another drink. “Or we could go see what London has going on tonight. Up to you.”

Kylia considered her options for a moment, “Can we go back to the hotel?”

Adam frowned slightly, “If you want…”

“I just figured you could use a shower before we go out,” she responded.

His frown instantly disappeared, “I probably should.”

“Besides, as long as I’m on my period, that’s probably the only place we can have sex.”

He coughed on his mouthful of water, “Did you say…?”

Kylia nodded and winked at him, “I did.”

“Let’s go then.”

Cuddling naked in bed with Adam, Kylia smiled. After leaving the T4 on the Beach venue and a brief stop at the hotel for a shower – and shower sex – Adam showed her all of the important sites in London. Or at least he started to until she mentioned how one of the stops had not changed since her visit ten years before. When it dawned on him that she had traveled before, he stopped trying to impress her with sightseeing. Instead, they shopped a couple of boutiques before a romantic dinner on the river.

She had not expected sex again once they returned to the hotel. But Adam had continued to order her drinks throughout the evening and she was very open to anything as she giggled through the hotel door. A teeny bit of her worried about the mess of period sex, but Adam quickly kissed away all thoughts. She did not know if it had been her level of intoxication or her body’s elevated hormones, but the sex had been amazing.

Only she could not go to sleep without visiting the bathroom. Once in there, her drunken mind remembered her current state. After washing her hands a moment later, she returned to the bedroom and flicked on the overhead light. Blinded by the light, Adam covered his face and groaned.

“Kiwi, turn off the light and come back to bed.”

She pulled the covers off of him, “We need to get new sheets.”

“Why?” he did not attempt to uncover his eyes.

“Because we stained the sheets,” she frowned.

“So? They can take care of it tomorrow when we check out,” Adam declared.

“I can’t sleep on this.”

He groaned again and finally opened his eyes, “It’s not like we haven’t — oh. Right.”

Rolling out of bed, he helped her pull the speckled white sheets off the bed. Though there were very few red spots on the cloth, he sorta understood her resistance; enough that he got dressed while she called down to the front desk for new sheets.

Watching Kylia toss the fluffy bathrobe aside once he locked the door again, Adam chuckled. He crawled into the newly made bed and waited for her to turn out the lights and join him. With the hotel suite once more dark, Kylia slipped into the fresh sheets and snuggled against Adam. He groaned softly at the sensation of her soft breasts against his bare chest.

“Today was nice,” she commented softly, wiggling closer.

“It was,” he agreed. “Australia will be great too.”

“What are your plans there?”

His fingers gently played with her hair on her back, “Other than the show we’re playing on, I have no plans.”

“How long are we going to be there?”

“As long as you want to be.”

Kylia remained silent for a moment, “I’ve actually never been to Australia. So maybe you can show me some things there?”

He smiled in the darkness, “I would love to. I’ll show you anything you want in the whole entire world, Ky.”

She snuggled closer, “Just some things around Sydney would suffice. Oh wait, are we even going to Sydney?”

“We are now. The show is in Melbourne, but I’ll take you to Sydney after it. We can see a performance at the Opera House, go to the museums and galleries, walk along the beaches…”

“Yes. Any of that. All of that. Just being with you there is enough,” she declared, her body beginning to relax into sleep. “Anywhere with you is where I want to be.”

Grinning, Adam squeezed her gently, “Me too, Ky. Me too.”
