Rating: PG-13 [language, innuendo]

Summary: The couple deals with the outcome of the pregnancy test and what that will mean in the world of celebrity...

The angle of the pregnancy test on the counter made it impossible to see the reading from the doorway.  Yet as much as she wanted to know if there was a bright blue + or not, Kylia could not seem to enter the bathroom.  What if she was pregnant?  What then?  Would Adam ask her to abort the baby?  Would he dump her in a flash?

Glancing at him, she shook the negative thoughts from her mind.  He had never been anything but wonderful to her.  She did not understand it, especially since he was a famous rock star.  But she accepted it…now, at least.  He would be supportive and loving, no matter what the little plastic indicator read.

It really was no surprise that they were hovering on the edge of something monumental like a baby.  They never used protection and he did not always pull out.  In fact, if she thought about it, he finished inside of her more often than not.  This was no surprise at all.

And yet it was.  She was not planning on having a baby yet.  She was not even certain Adam wanted kids.  Granted, she had seen him interact with young, children fans before and it was always adorable.  But that did not mean he was ready to be a father.  Though she supposed now was the perfect time to start a family; she was not working any more so she certainly had the time to care for a child or children.  Were they ready for that, though?  Could Adam make the sacrifice needed for a baby?

“Ky,” he touched the small of her back, “I can’t see it from here and I don’t think you can either.”

She shook her head, “Adam, what if we’re…?”

He turned her around to face him again, guiding her into a sweet kiss, “I can’t imagine anyone more perfect to be a mother than you, Ky.  I would be so very blessed to have a child with you.  This is not a bad thing.”

“Are you sure?”

His lips touched hers again, “Absolutely positive.”

Pulling away from her, Adam stepped into the bathroom.  She did not turn around as he picked the plastic test up from the granite counter.  She could not bear to see his reaction on his face for whatever reason.  Never before had she felt so… scared and nervous.

Saying nothing, Adam set the test back down and approached his girlfriend.  His arms circled her from behind and he squeezed gently.  Leaning backwards, she placed her head on his shoulder, her eyes squeezed closed as she waited the results.  One hand drifted lower, his fingers spreading wide over her lower abdomen.  Her breath caught as he held her firmly just like that.

“Adam?” she muttered, turning her head slightly to look at him.

“Ky…”

“What does it… what does it say?” she whispered.

He remained silent for a moment, “Nothing.  There’s nothing on the screen.”

“What?” Kylia quickly pulled away and headed into the bathroom.

She picked up the tester.  Turning it over a few times, she frowned.  As Adam said, there was no indication of anything on the screen at all.  Had they not waited long enough?  Was the test defective?  Had she peed on the wrong spot?  Setting it back down, she snatched up the instruction booklet and quickly read it over.  She had done everything right, had even waited longer than it said was necessary.  But there was… nothing.

“It’s blank,” she stated.

Adam entered the bathroom, stopping next to her, “I guess it’s broken.”

“But… Adam…” Kylia turned to face him, the instructions still in her hand.

He pulled the booklet out of her hand and set it on the counter.  Wordlessly, he clasped her hand and led her out of the hotel bathroom.  Pausing in thought for a moment, Adam decided against leading her to the bedroom and took her to the nearby sofa instead.  He sat down and pulled her into his lap, his lips brushing hers quickly.

“Do you want to go get another test?” he asked softly.

She cuddled up against him and nodded, “Yes.”

“Then let’s go do that,” Adam stated, but did not make any movements to stand.

“What if…?”

His lips touched her temple, “Then I am truly the luckiest man in the whole wide world.”

“Really?”

“I know we have only been together a short time… even though four months is like a lifetime in Hollywood,” he smirked, before his face once more turned serious, “but I have never felt anything remotely similar to how I feel every day with you.  I would truly feel that… I wouldn’t deserve a family with you, but right now, in this very moment, I can’t imagine having a family with anyone but you.”

“Adam…”

He softly kissed her, “If we’re having a baby…”

She closed her eyes and laid her head on his shoulder.  His arms remained wrapped around her, though his hand dropped to her abdomen.  Lightly his fingers caressed her stomach, working towards the hem of her shirt.  His hand slipped up and he caressed her soft flesh once more.  Smiling, Kylia did nothing, remained silent, letting Adam’s hand do all the conversing.  She could tell with each little circle, he meant what he said.  As she remained curled up in his lap, Kylia realized she agreed with him.

“Adam?”

“Yes, Ky.”

“I’m so glad I’m having a baby with you.  I can’t imagine having children with anyone else.”

Smiling, he pulled his hand free from her shirt and squeezed her gently, “Then let’s have babies.  Lots and lots of happy babies.”

Kylia chuckled, “How about we just start with one?”

“Mmmmm, okay,” he grinned and guided her into a quick kiss. “Should we head down to get another take-home test?”

“Yes, let’s do that.”

A few minutes later, the couple exited the hotel lobby, holding hands.  Within less than a block, half a dozen photographs trailed them.  As they neared the drug store Kylia previously purchased the pregnancy test, her fingers tightened on his.  Reading her body language, Adam stopped and sweetly kissed her.  She knew what he was trying to do, but it really did not calm her down at all.

“Adam…”

“We’ll just keep walking until they get bored of following us,” he stated. “Then we’ll find another store to get a test at.”

“But… okay,” she agreed.

After walking about six blocks, Adam felt like they had finally shaken off the paparazzi, since they had not done anything really worth documenting, other than a few stolen kisses.  Stopping at a corner crossing, he glanced around for a drug store, paying careful attention for any photographers.  Seeing no more lensmasters, but spying a drug store across the street and halfway down the block, Adam pulled Kylia along with the crowd crossing.

They ducked into the small store and wandered back to the feminine protection aisle.  Passing pads and tampons followed by condoms and lubes, the couple reached the at-home pregnancy test section.  Looking over the selections, Adam shrugged and grabbed a couple of them off the shelf, dropping them in the basket Kylia picked up at the front of the store.  His eyes flicked to hers before he leaned over and quickly kissed her.

Kylia did not return the kiss.  She was frozen, her eyes wide.  Instantly knowing why, he kissed her again and took the shopping basket from her.  Placing his hand at the small of her back, Adam guided her towards the checkout — and directly pass the man who photographed them.  Though instinct wanted to punch the asshole in the face, Adam forced a smile and continued on, ignoring the man’s quickly muttered questions.

With the five tests safely tucked in a paper bag a few minutes later, Adam led Kylia back out on the street.  Neither spoke on the walk back to the hotel, not even when she tensed again when cameras snapped their picture once more.  She kept her head held high, not even giving the publicity stalkers a second glance at all.

The moment the hotel door closed, she crumbled, “Adam…”

He tossed the bag on top of the bathroom counter before quickly embracing her, “Shhhh, it’s going to be okay, Ky.  I promise you.”

“Everyone is going to think…”

He kissed her forehead, “So we’ll be on the ‘Baby Bump Watchlist’ tomorrow.  Who cares?  It could very well be true.”

“They already talk about how fat I a—”

“Shush,” he interrupted. “You need to drink so we can take the tests.”

Pulling away, Adam pulled a bottle of water out of the mini-fridge and handed it to her.  Waiting until she took a big gulp, he led her over to the couch and sat down.  Without pause, he pulled her back into his lap and cuddled her.

“Everything is going to be okay, Ky.  Everything.”

With dark sunglasses shielding her very tired eyes and her hand clutching Adam’s, Kylia tried to ignore everyone as they headed towards their departure gate.  She knew their picture was taken more than a dozen times between the hotel and the airport.  And she knew exactly why too.  She only wished that what everyone thought was true.

Though maybe it was.  All five tests had been inconclusive.  It had kept her up all night, even with Adam doing his best to make her feel better.  She had not even been able to relax enough to orgasm when they made love.  That alone made Adam tense, thinking it was his failure, but after talking the rest of the night, he knew it was not.

Just as she knew the fact they were still uncertain if they were pregnant or not was not her fault.  They would merely see her doctor once they returned to Los Angeles the following day.  She could quiet the voices in her head for that long.  At least she hoped she could.

Settling in First Class on the plane to London, Adam softly kissed his girlfriend as the plane took off.  Her silence was really beginning to worry him.  Yes, he believed they were ready to walk down the path to parenthood.  He could not imagine having children with anyone but the beautiful woman beside him.  He even understood why she did not like all the publicity surrounding them.  She had not ever sought attention, certainly not the kind that came along with his particular career path.  She had just finally seemed to be relaxing into his lifestyle, not nearly as hesitant in accepting his praise and desire to pamper her all the time.  But now… because he had not been able to be discreet enough, the contents of her womb would be under analysis.  He could not imagine the pressure that would place on her.  Her public appearance would be even more scrutinized.  If she ever had a day where she was photographed from an odd angle or wore something that did not fit her perfectly, he knew the press would tear her apart.  He would have to protect her even more.

Lifting her hand to his lips, Adam kissed her knuckles gently, “You know, I love you.”

She flushed, her eyes briefly meeting his, “I don’t know what brought that on…”

He smiled, spread her hand out and kissed her palm, “You just being you is what brought it on.  I can’t help but love you.”

Kylia blushed again, “Adam…”

Grinning he quickly kissed her mouth, “You know, I fell in love with you the first time I saw you…”

Her blush deepened, “Now you’re just…”

“It’s true.  It’s absolutely true,” he stole another kiss before telling the flight attendant to bring them champagne.

“What are we celebrating?” Kylia asked softly.

“Every day with you is worth celebrating,” he quickly proclaimed, eliciting yet another blush from her.

“I…” her eyes dropped to her lap as she searched for the words to respond to all of his kind words.

Falling silent for a few moments, Kylia excused herself and headed to the restroom before the champagne arrived.  She glanced in the airplane toilet as she stood up and froze.  It took her a few minutes to process why the toilet was not the awful blue.

“No no no,” she muttered. “This can’t… no…”

A knock at the door sounded, “Are you okay in there, ma’am?”

She cracked the door open, her eyes meeting the flight attendant, “Um… do you by chance happen to have a tampon or something?”

Nodding knowingly, she turned around and opened up a cubby in the service area.  Handing the paper-wrapped tampon to Kylia, she smiled and stepped away.  With a sigh, Kylia returned to the bathroom for a moment.

As she sat next to Adam a minute later, her eyes went to the champagne he held out to her.  Her bottom lip instantly trembled and she turned away quickly to hide her tears.  Alarm instantly filled his soul.  Setting the champagne glasses down, Adam reached for her.  Kylia avoided his touch, refused to look at him.

Concerned, he grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him.  Tears dripped off her thick, dark eyelashes, leaving dark rivulets down her cheeks.  Not understanding it at all, he picked up one of the cocktail napkins and quickly wiped her tears.

“Ky… what’s wrong?” he asked softly, catching more tears.

She attempted to pull away.  Not allowing it, Adam leaned forward and kissed her gently.  Her face scrunched up in pain again.

“Kylia, tell me what’s bothering you,” Adam requested.

“My… my period started,” she muttered softly.

Realization filled his soul quickly.  He did not hesitate to pull her into his arms, to kiss her temple.  Even though he tangentially understood why she was crying, he was not certain he really did.  All he knew was he needed to hold and kiss her until she stopped crying.

Once her tears dried up, he kissed her deeply, “I love you, Kylia.”

“But I’m not… I’m not…”

“So you’re not pregnant yet.  That’s okay.  We can work on that,” he stated.

“Wait… what?”

“If anything, this has made me realize I want a family with you.  I want children with you.  I want you to carry my babies, to mother my family,” Adam proclaimed softly.

“Adam…”

“Let’s make a family, Kylia.  Let’s have babies together.”
